Our distinguished alumni speaker series, Alumni in the KNOW, incorporates a unique opportunity to explore the professional paths of AU's decorated and accomplished alumni. The program stimulates career development interest in future alumni and connects prominent alumni with the AU community.

The second speaker of the semester will be Jim Kennedy, SOC/MA ’77, Senior Vice President of Strategic Communications for Sony Corporation of America. He joined Sony in 2005 after serving as a spokesman for President Bill Clinton, Vice President Al Gore, Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator Joe Lieberman.

At Sony, Jim is based in New York and oversees the communications team, which is responsible for external and internal communications in the United States.  Between 2005 and 2011, he headed communications at Sony Pictures Entertainment, working out of the studio in Culver City, California.

Jim’s work with the Clinton's began in January, 1998 when he was named Special Advisor to the White House Counsel.  He was a spokesman for President during the Lewinsky investigation and resulting impeachment proceedings.  In 2000 he became Deputy Press Secretary and Deputy Assistant to President Clinton, and later was named Communications Director for Vice President Al Gore, serving as a spokesman for the Vice President during the 2000 election recount battle.

In January, 2001, Jim joined Senator Hillary Clinton as Communications Director and Senior Advisor, handling media and speech writing and working on issues that included the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.

In the summer of 2002, Jim rejoined President Clinton as Counselor and Communications Director. He worked on communications issues relating to the Clinton Foundation’s initiatives on HIV/AIDS and economic empowerment, as well as media relations for President Clinton’s library opening, “My Life” book tour and service as UN Envoy for Tsunami Relief.
