Are you interested in public affairs and community service? Join the Black Alumni Alliance and the Black Professional Association on Wednesday, November 6 to welcome Clarence J. Fluker SOC/MA '02, Communications & Special Initiatives Director for Serve DC - The Mayor's Office on Volunteerism. Mr. Fluker graduated with a Master’s Degree in Public Communication from the School of Communication in 2002. Mr. Fluker will talk about what it means to have a career in “public affairs” and answer your questions about using your Communications degree. 

Clarence J. Fluker is a public affairs and creative thought leader with a proven ability to connect the dots and people to meaningful causes and yield significant results.  His current position is Communications and Special Initiatives Director for Serve DC – The Mayor’s Office on Volunteerism where he advances the office’s mission of promoting service and volunteerism as an innovative and sustainable tool to meet unmet community needs.  Previously he worked with the Mayor’s Office of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Affairs as a liaise between community organizations, government agencies and constituents to improve, transform, and ensure the delivery of cultural competent services to thousands of GLBT District residents and employees of the District of Columbia.  Before joining the Executive Office of the Mayor he worked for a national political action committee and several nonprofit organizations managing communications, fundraising and program initiatives.  Mr. Fluker currently serves on the AU Black Alumni Alliance Leadership as Signature Programs Co-Chair and was Co-Chair of the 2013 All American Weekend Multicultural Alumni Reunion.
