Join the School of International Service for June's installment of the 3rd Thursdays Film Series, The Band's Visit
, sponsored by the Embassy of Israel. The film replays the story of an Israeli orchestra group in Israel. The musicians have been booked by an Arab cultural center in Petah Tiqva, but through a miscommunication the band takes a bus to Bet Hatikva, a town in the middle of the Negev Desert. There is no transportation out of the city, so the band members dine at a small restaurant where the owner invites them to stay the night at her apartment. That night challenges all of the characters. Watch the trailer here
The film will start at 6:30 pm after a brief reception. This new series fosters global understanding through an engaging lineup of documentary films provided by Washington, D.C. embassies. The monthly screenings are free and open to the public, but an RSVP is required. Parking is available in the garage beneath the School of International Service building located at the intersection of Nebraska and New Mexico Avenues, NW.
Chef Geoff's, a local New Mexico Avenue bistro a few doors down from SIS, is offering a complimentary glass of wine or dessert to 3rd Thursday film goers.
