American University has a broad range of alumni affinity groups and networks that eagerly seek your active participation.  Affinity groups and networks that celebrate and support identity, industry, leisure, student activities, and student experience may be found on this page.

AU Black Alumni Alliance (BAA)

The mission of the AU Black Alumni Alliance (BAA) is to create a lifelong and worldwide community of AU alumni with greatest focus on the 6,000 black and African-heritage Diaspora communities and beyond.

AU Latino Alumni Alliance (LAA)

The mission of the American University Latino Alumni Alliance (LAA) is to increase engagement, foster connections, and build a worldwide network of the 4,000 American University Latino and Hispanic-heritage alumni community and beyond.

AU Legacy Alumni Network (LAN)

Co-Chairs: Linda Lupo-Rodriguez, SOC/BA '87, and Jacqueline 'Jackie' Cirillo-Meisenberg, SOC/BA '87

This network is designed to bring together those alumni and students who have made an AU education part of their family tradition. Generations of families have passed on the AU tradition to their children and grandchildren, and we want to help celebrate this special relationship. The Legacy Alumni Network (LAN) helps these members of the AU community stay in touch with the university and with other legacies through special events and networking opportunities. It rewards families for their continued generational support of AU.

AU Entertainment and Media Alumni Alliance (EMAA)

With more than 10,000 alumni trained in entertainment and media, the American University Entertainment and Media Alumni Alliance (EMAA) aims to create a lifelong and worldwide community of AU alumni with current and aspiring careers in motion pictures, music, television, and theater, as well as news, public communication, journalism, and documentaries.

AU New York Finance Network

Co-Chairs: Jamie Steinberg, Kogod/MBA '11 and Dave Gurak, Kogod/BSBA '05

AU alumni in the financial services industry play a critical role in expanding the scope and depth of AU’s visibility in New York and the University’s presence with employers across the field. This group, open to alumni at all points in their career, will provide valuable professional networking opportunities in New York, heightened engagement with the institution, and the opportunity to engage in and learn about trends across the industry.

AU Green Alumni Network

The AU Green Alumni Network is an organization of alumni interested in and actively working towards a green environment and a more sustainable climate in the nation and around the world. Sustainability at American University continues to be a top priority and we hope to bring together our alumni to broaden the message of AU’s efforts in working and promoting the study of green living and sustainability.

AU Honors Alumni Network

Task Force Chair: Matthew Parin, SIS/BA '07

The AU Honors Alumni Network is an alliance of former students who were actively involved in the Honors Program at American University during their academic tenure. Increased engagement with alumni and networking with future alumni will help foster the development of relationships and successful programs in the Honors Program at American University.

AU Eagle Alumni Board

The AU Eagle Alumni Board is an alliance composed of AU alumni who formerly worked on the student newspaper, The Eagle, during their time at American University.

AU Gospel Choir Alumni Network

Co-Chairs: Bradley White, Esq. SPA/BA '99, WCL/JD '07 and Brittany L. Johnson, SOC/BA '10

A newly formed group created to bring together AU alumni who previously performed in the Gospel choir during their time at AU.

AU Spirit Alumni Network

Co-Chairs: Chelsea Ritchie, SIS/BA '12 and Joanna  Ranelli, SPA/BA '09

The AU Spirit Network was formed as a way to bring together past members of the AU dance and cheer teams, former mascots, and school spirit/ pep band members and supporters.

Pride Alumni - Graduates Welcome Reception
Join the AU Pride Alumni Alliance and 2014 graduates for a welcome reception to celebrate the newest members of AU's LGBTQ alumni community. RSVP by April 25. Free for 2014 AU graduates and $10 for alumni and guests. 

SIS Undergraduate Pinning Ceremony
SIS alumni are invited to volunteer to pin SIS seniors to celebrate their upcoming commencement. As a recent recipient of the Alumni Engagement Award Program, the SIS Undergraduate Council will host 2013-14 graduating SIS seniors in a pinning ceremony. The AU alumni will pin the graduates as one way to welcome them to the AU Alumni Association. Refreshments to follow the ceremony.

"Fort Bliss" Premiere at Newport Beach Film Festival
Assistant Professor Claudia Myers hosts the premiere of her film, Fort Bliss, in Los Angeles as part of the Newport Beach Film Festival. In Fort Bliss, a female Army medic and single mom (Michelle Monaghan) returns from an extended tour in Afghanistan to find she must win back the love of her 5-year-old son. Ron Livingston, Freddy Rodriguez, and John Savage also star in the film.
